Guide to Resistance Bands and Workout Bands

What is a resistance band

Resistance Bands are lightweight elastic bands used to induce muscle contraction. When the user pulls on the band, this contraction increases the strength of the muscle. Resistance Bands have been around in one form or another since the early 20th century. At first, they were mainly used for rehabilitation. Those with damaged muscles would use these bands to regain their lost strength.

Whether you are selling your resistance bands to adults or children, Zensheng offers resistance bands for all ages and genders. These volume resistance bands are excellent in terms of quality and are made of sturdy materials that will last a long time. They are made of sturdy materials and will last for a long time. The six types of resistance bands

Resistance Bands are used by people undergoing physiotherapy and by anyone who wants to strengthen their muscles. There are six main types of resistance bands, as well as five standard colors for the bands that indicate how much resistance they offer. Resistance bands vary not only in terms of color but also in size, shape, handle and looped versus non-looped.

Therapy band

As the name implies, therapy belts are almost always used for rehabilitation. Therapy belts have no handles and are gentle on the body. They have a flat surface rather than a tubular structure. Some people use therapy belts not only for physical rehabilitation but also for psychological rehabilitation.

Compact Resistance Bands / Tube Bands

The tube resistance bands have handles at both ends and they are designed to mimic gym equipment and dumbbell exercises. They are easily fixed to a door or bar/rod.

They are suitable for chest presses, curls, back rows, shoulder presses and other exercises involving pushing and pulling. They are also suitable for programs such as the P90X. You can hit all your muscle groups with tubular resistance bands, so they are perfect for those who don't have access to a gym or prefer to train outdoors and want something simple and easy to carry.

Compact resistance bands consist of a longer than usual tube (approx. 4 feet) with two plastic handles at each end. They are sometimes referred to as "adaptor" resistance bands. They are used for a variety of purposes and can be used to train the upper body, arms and lower body.

Size/resistance.

On average, a tube band set will provide 10-50 lbs. of resistance. The thickness of the tube determines the resistance.

Fit loop bands / Mini Bands

As with the therapeutic band, the Fitted Loop Band has a flat rather than tubular surface. As the title implies, it forms a continuous loop. Best used to strengthen the lower body, including the legs, hips and buttocks.

The mini band is similar to the power resistance loop band but is shorter and wider. The new design comes with a fabric covering the band for added comfort and to prevent the band from rolling up, which is common in very light resistance mini bands (we prefer the non-slip fabric band).

The mini stretch bands can be used to increase strength and stability in the lower body (as well as the upper body for certain exercises).

By placing them above the knees or at the ankles you can get great hip and glute activation. They are also great for use during weight training. Mini bands help you stabilise, activate your core, maintain proper form and gain extra glute activation and tension during lifts such as squats, hip thrusts and leg extensions.

Like most resistance bands, mini bands can also be effective in targeting the shoulder complex and they are a great tool for stabilising the shoulders and elbows.

Size/resistance.

Mini band sets are usually divided into light, medium, heavy and extra heavy. This should be about 5-50+ lbs of resistance.

The length and thickness of these bands will vary depending on their resistance, but they are all used to wrap around the legs.

Ring resistance bands

The Ring Resistance Band consists of a small single loop with two handles attached to either side. The handles are soft, rather than hard plastic. These types of elastic bands are best for working the lower body, but they require a different workout to a gym ring band or compact resistance band.

Ring resistance bands are essentially like giant rubber bands. They are a continuous flat loop that can be used for a variety of purposes.

You can use Ring resistance bands for bodyweight assistance (pull-ups, push-ups, muscle lifts etc.), bodyweight resistance (push-ups, bear crawls, box jumps), full body exercises (squats, shoulder presses, thrusters etc.) physiotherapy (for people suffering from leg, knee and back injuries, to help recover from torn MCLs and ACLs, knee replacements, patella and meniscus rehabilitation recovery), warm-ups, static stretches (add stretches and new stretching positions that you would otherwise struggle to access) and you can combine them with free weights to increase resistance (squats with Ring resistance bands, bench press with Ring resistance bands, etc.). In addition, you can attach them to a bar/pole for pushing and pulling exercises and rehabilitation exercises (i.e. rotator cuff).

Size/resistance.

Ring resistance bands are all 41" long and 0.18" thick. The difference between the dimensions is the width of the band. The width determines the amount of resistance.

Band widths range from 0.25 to 2.5 inches. So, if you had all the different sizes, you would have about 5-175 lbs of resistance.

As a reference, here are the Ring resistance band sizes and resistance levels.

#1 Yellow (1/2"): 5 to 30 lbs (41" x 0.5" x 0.18")

#2 Black (7/8"): 20 to 55 lbs (41" x 0.85" x 0.18")

#3 Blue (1 1/4"): 35 to 70 lbs ( 41" x 1.25" x 0.18")

#4 Green (1 3/4"): 45 to 115 lbs ( 41" x 1.75" x 0.18")

#5 Grey (2 1/2"): 60 to 170 lbs ( 41" x 2.5" x 0.18" )

Pull up bands

Pull up bands, also known as pull up assistance bands, are a special type of resistance band designed to help those attempting pull ups. For many people, starting to do pull-ups can be difficult. Even experienced athletes can have a lot of trouble with this exercise. If your body is not strong enough to do a pull-up then it can be difficult to build up those muscle groups and progress to doing reps.

With a pull-up band you can practice pull-ups without over-straining your arms. This is a great way to dive into an exercise that is great for your upper body. With band-assisted pull-ups you can strengthen the obliques, biceps, rhomboids and latissimus dorsi. You will soon see the rewards of more muscle definition and eventually you will be able to perform pull-ups without them.

What should you look for in a resistance band?

As well as type and colour, there are a number of other things you can look for in a resistance band. All of these factors will help you choose the right resistance band for you and your workout.

Length.

Resistance bands come in different lengths. Some are so small that they don't even stretch beyond arm length. Others, such as pull-up bands, are quite extensive. If you're not sure which length to choose, go for the longer option. You can usually tie, wrap or even cut longer straps if necessary and it is difficult to modify shorter straps in any way.

Material.

Although most resistance bands are made from some sort of rubber-like tubing, the materials used can actually vary considerably. Depending on the material, resistance bands are more likely to overstretch or tear. Sticking with a real rubber latex compound is usually a good choice.

Handles.

You should not only choose whether you want handles, but also decide what kind of handles you prefer. If you are doing a lot of exercises that mimic dumbbells, then you will probably need handles first. You should then decide how a.) soft and b.) grippy these handles should be. If you have not used resistance bands before, use softer grips or you may develop some serious calluses.

Buying resistance bands

Buying resistance bands is a good option for anyone who wants to build muscle tone for almost any reason. It is a low risk investment as resistance bands are inexpensive and can be used anywhere.

If you are unsure which resistance band to buy, we recommend that you buy the full set so that you can continue to use the resistance bands, or start with the yellow or red resistance bands with handles. The handles will help you to mimic exercises you may already be doing with dumbbells or other weights, but you will be able to target specific muscle groups more precisely.
